Apparently cable network Viceland thinks so, too. A show called “What Would Diplo Do?” has just been greenlit with a six-episode order, making it the first scripted series for the channel.
A comedy, “What Would Diplo Do?” is based on “A Day in the Life,” which was an online promo for Diplo’s Mad Decent Block Party. In that clip, Diplo didn’t actually appear. Instead, he was played by former Dawson’s Creek alumni James Van Der Beek.
Just like in that clip, Van Der Beek will be starring in the new series. However, rather than playing Diplo himself, he’ll be playing a version of the DJ. According to Deadline, the story will follow a “collection of parables about life as told through the eyes of a guy who can bring 60,000 people to their feet, but kind of sucks one-on-one.”
Thankfully, Diplo will be involved in the creation of the show. He and Van Der Beek will both executive produce “What Would Diplo Do?,” while Diplo’s manager Kevin Kusatsu and music video director Brandon Dermer will direct.
