Watch: Avicii’s ‘Wake Me Up’ Hit 1 BILLION Views

DJ Snake and Major Lazer made headlines earlier this year when their hit music video for “Lean On” hit over a billion views, becoming the first ever EDM track to do so. Now a second artist has joined the billionaire club–Avicii‘s “Wake Me Up” music video crossed into the stratosphere earlier this week.

Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” has hit it big.

Originally released in 2013 on his debut album True, Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” didn’t get solid positive feedback right from the start. At 2013’s Ultra Music Festival, Avicii played material from the album, which incorporated bluegrass and country music tints. At the festival, he had banjo and kazoo live instrumentals added to the tracks.

Some fans felt like the producer missed the memo that Ultra is an EDM festival, and they thought his songs didn’t really line up with the norm of EDM. However, it didn’t seem to phase Avicii.

Aloe Blacc performed with Avicii at Ultra in 2013.

The DJ posted a long response on Facebook saying, “We wanted to make a statement, and there’s really no better place to make one than UMF mainstage. People will soon see what it’s all about.”

He also added, “My music is open to anyone who wants to listen to it and I will always stay true to my sound. Love you all who listen with open hearts and minds.”
