Steve Aoki’s Stormy Documentary Coming to Netflix

UPDATE: Anyone who missed out on attending the Tribeca Film Festival and therefore missed Steve Aoki‘s documentary I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead will be thrilled to know that the film will be hitting Netflix.

I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead originally premiered back in April to solid praise, and it will now be available on Netflix beginning August 19, 2016.

In addition to the documentary, Aoki will be launching an EP, 4OKI, on July 29 in addition to touring the U.S. and Europe and playing several sets around Las Vegas.

Though the premiere of the documentary I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead at Tribeca Film Festival recently seemed like a party with documentary star Steve Aoki putting on a show after the screening, the story being told by the film is less upbeat.

The story behind Steve Aoki’s rise to fame is a roller coaster of trials.

The film, directed by new blood Justin Krook, centers around Aoki’s relationship with his father, Hiroaki “Rocky” Aoki. Rocky was the founder of the Benihana chain.

A mix of festival footage, aerial and slow motion shots, and discussion of Steve’s personal relationships sets the tone for his frenetic upbringing, from slumming it as a restaurant server to becoming one of the most famous DJs of the day.
