Porter Robinson had just unveiled that the Shelter Live Tour would be hitting up Tokyo. After that, a mystery album popped up at a Japanese retailer. It made its way onto Reddit, and everybody was wondering what it was.
Porter explained what went down when a fan questioned him about the idea of having one song and one tour for it. Here’s what went down on Twitter:
@GlobalDanceElec @porterrobinson @madeon I’m not mad but i kinda liked the one song, one tour, one time concept

@BarryByanBelter it IS a one-song, one-tour thing. this is a japanese-exclusive physical release of the song Shelter.

@BarryByanBelter it’s still important to release physical music in the japanese market, that’s why this exists
— porter robinson (@porterrobinson) January 8, 2017
@BarryByanBelter the japanese label requested that we package the single w/ few other things (piano version, couple remixes, older music)
— porter robinson (@porterrobinson) January 8, 2017
@BarryByanBelter people in america aren’t even really supposed to be aware of this release- just a single to coincide with our show in japan
— porter robinson (@porterrobinson) January 8, 2017
@BarryByanBelter it’s an extended version of the piano / strings (with no dialogue!) version that i made for shelter the animation

Though it definitely seems true to the “one-song, one-tour” concept, people who still like to get their hands on physical copies of albums are swooning over the idea of an exclusive release.
