Purple Rain, released in 1984, was his first number one album on the Billboard 200. The album came out at the same time as the film of the same name. The album and film combination earned the musician two Grammys and an Oscar, as well as rocketed him into becoming one of the most influential artists of the era.
He was known for his funk and psychadelic beats, provacative lyrics and strong falsetto. Despite being an instantly recognizable voice, he was continuously experimenting and evolving his style, giving music his full dedication.
