The confusing poster in question listed the lineup along with a statement that read, “special guest appearance by the new #1 DJ in the world.” People looked to DJ Mag’s rankings and used a little deductive reasoning to figure out who they meant.
YourEDM.com argued that it wouldn’t be a duo since the flyer said “DJ” and not “DJs.” They also noted that many of the top DJs are already on the lineup: Armin van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Hardwell are all already scheduled. That would make Martin Garrix the most likely contender to take over the #1 spot on DJ Mag’s list since last year he was #3, unless Tiesto magically jumped up four places.
The arguments were pretty compelling, but Garrix put the kibash on the whole situation via Tweet.

So that’s enough of that. Voting is apparently still open for DJ Mag’s coveted list, and will be until September 14th. So somebody must be winning by a landslide in order for Amsterdam Music Festival to announce they’ll have the #1 DJ of the year.
Who are the other options for the title? Last year, the only other top ten contenders that haven’t been mentioned yet were David Guetta, Avicii, Afrojack, Skrillex and Steve Aoki.
Maybe Amsterdam Music Festival was just using advertising lingo like “Best DJ ever!” in order to get people pumped up, but it still seems like they know something we don’t.
