The producer had just released his debut album in May, and his song “Carry Me” became the choice to close out the Olympics. Performing along with him was Julia Michaels, and they didn’t even mind the slight rain falling on the stage as they jammed.
In a press release, Kygo revealed that he took the chance to perform at such a huge event to heart. “The opportunity to be a part of the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio is a huge milestone in my career and it will be the biggest performance of my life,” he said. “I’ve been a sports fan forever.”
Kygo has made a name for himself by infusing a tropical sound into his electronic music, and he even lived in Brazil when he was younger, which made him a great fit for the Rio event.
Brazilian culture was further honored with dancers like the Grupo Corpo Brazilian Ballet and samba singer Martinho da Vila giving inspiring performances.
