After they split in 2013, we had lost all hope of group members Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello coming together again. So what happened to make us get a fleeting glimpse of excitement?
Proximity, a YouTube channel with 3.3 million subscribers, prides itself on putting out EDM to the masses, and they are to blame for toying with our emotions. Proximity posted a photo on their Facebook page that said, “Hello Swedish House Mafia 2017.”
They’ve since taken the photo down, but a statement explained the rumors they were going off. “A lot of people are asking for answers,” the post begins. “This is not a troll post-I’m not that cruel.”
Seems pretty cruel to us. “What I can say is that I have spoke [sic] to a few people in the music industry that Swedish House Mafia is indeed coming back in 2017 for a tour that is already confirmed,” Proximity wrote.
However, to Proximity’s credit, the Facebook page added a disclaimer: “But what I heard about the tour was not said or confirmed by Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello or their team.”
Before we could even start to think about the logistics (Where will they play? How do we get tickets?), Axwell & Ingrosso quickly debunked the rumors. “At this point we’re not planning on reuniting and we have really no further comments on what the future for SHM looks like.”
Even if we can’t bank on a Swedish House Mafia reunion, at least all three former members are continuing to put out music. Axwell & Ingrosso have been touring together while Steve Angello has been focusing on his label Size Records.
