Websites, newspapers and even buildings have been tinted purple to honor the “Purple Rain” singer. Everything from the Empire State Building in New York to the Montreal City Hall have been illuminated with purple lights. Delta flights landing in Minneapolis likewise changed their overhead lights to a violet hue.
The cast of Broadway’s “The Color Purple,” starring Jennifer Hudson, gave a tribute to the singer by performing a post-show performance of “Purple Rain.” Stephen Colbert also held an “in memorium” on the Late Show.
In Minneapolis, where Prince resided his entire life, fans have been hit especially hard with grief. They gathered at the First Avenue nightclub for an all-night party to celebrate the singer’s gifts to the state of Minnesota. Flowers and memorabilia have also been left outside his Paisley Park home, while the Minnesota Twins turned their stadium purple to honor the deceased artist.
