With Calvin Harris being the first ever EDM artist to have one of the top three headlining spots, it’s proof that EDM is something that appeals to the masses. Therefore, additional dance and electronic acts also found their way onto the bill in higher numbers than ever before.
Some critics have stated that many of the EDM choices for Coachella were “safe,” and not something that appeals to true ravers. With the likes of SOPHIE, Nosaj Thing and Snakehips in addition to more widely known groups like Jack U and Zedd, the variety was present if attendees paid attention.
The addition of the Yuma Stage beginning just two years ago is further proof of dance music’s success at the biggest festival of the year. What originally started as a small club inside a tent has now become a massive cave featuring solely house and techno.
