Justin Bieber may have Diplo to thank for helping him reach a more adult audience (at least Bieber says he is…), but the Major Lazer and Jack Ü producer is brushing off the compliments and even calling out Bieber on his past.
Bieber and Diplo first collaborated with the track “Where Are Ü Now” in 2015, which helped Bieber to take a step into the EDM world.
Diplo talked about working with the “Baby” singer in a recent interview. “He had just turned 21, and he was like, ‘Yo, man, I want to thank you because this is the first time I’ve ever had adults clap for me. This is like a big deal.'”
The producer added that Bieber’s background hurt him a bit in the transition. “You think about that, and yeah, he was kind of like a clown on a pedestal. People just, like, picked on him.”
