In a recent interview with The Fader, Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Pentz, got candid about his decision to transition from behind-the-scenes guy to leading man. Oddly enough, it was Justin Bieber who helped him solidify his position.
Diplo had known Justin Bieber and his manager Scooter for quite some time, and it was when Bieber hit a low point that Diplo stepped in.
“They had hit a place where nothing was working for them, and Justin had kinda hit rock bottom with things, like from the press, from jail, and from, like, taking his pants down at an awards show or something,” Diplo said. “I wasn’t even paying attention, but I know that he wasn’t very cool.”
So what could Diplo do about it? Make everybody love Justin Bieber’s music, of course.
“I thought working with Bieber would be the most noticeable thing we could do. It would be a great record, and it would make everyone really f—ed up,” he said. “It would make them really disappointed in themselves, and really confused, like, ‘How do I like this record?'”Read more to get the rest of Diplo’s drama on Justin Bieber:
