Chainsmokers Become 2nd EDM Act EVER to Top Billboard Hot 100

We keep saying it over and over this year–the Chainsmokers are on fire! It’s been a great summer for the duo, and the recent Billboard charts only confirm their success. Their hit song “Closer” has just become the second ever EDM song to top Billboard’s Hot 100.

Celebrate the victory, fellas.

Some people consider it to actually be the first EDM Hot 100 chart topper since they don’t think the real one–Baauer‘s “Harlem Shake”–counts as EDM.

Either way, it’s a pretty big victory for the Chainsmokers. Not only is “Closer” topping the Hot 100, it’s also set some other records. It’s currently also number one on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, which makes the Chainsmokers the artist with the most songs ever to make it onto that list. Calvin Harris held the previous record for three songs, while the Chainsmokers now have four: “#Selfie,” “Roses,” “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Closer.”

“#Selfie” was the pair’s first song to hit it big.

Likewise, they have become the first pair of artists since 2013 to top the Hot 100. The last time this happened was with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘ song “Thrift Shop.”
