“This Is What You Came For” feat. Rihanna (and co-written by his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift) is the third EDM song ever to pass a billion views on YouTube. The first was Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s “Lean On” in early 2016, and not long ago Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” passed the same milestone.
The newest member of the billionaire EDM club was released on April 29 of this year and was pretty successful from the start. It spent three weeks at number one on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and made it to number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
However, the music video for “This Is What You Came For” didn’t have that long to rack in those billion views. It was released nearly two months later, on June 17, 2016. Naturally, the video features Rihanna chilling in a cube while images are projected across the walls.
There was some initial controversy about the track thanks to a mystery co-writer named Nils Sjöberg. No one could figure out who this was, but once Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift split up, her team revealed that Nils Sjöberg was Swift’s pseudonym. They went on to say that they didn’t want their relationship to overshadow the song itself, so Swift elected to go by a different name.
However, that seemed like a load of crock since she let it slip as soon as they split. Harris himself seemed a bit mad about it and even had a rare freak-out on Twitter. Thankfully, now he’s only got positive things to share:
