Call Me Maybe? Avicii to Retire From Shows, Requests Texts From Fans

I awoke this morning to some shocking and sad news concerning one of the best-known house DJs, Avicii. After an amazing run of headlining massives like Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, and Hangout Music Festival, shaking up the electronic dance music world with his hit “Levels,” and bridging the gap between EDM and mainstream pop music, Tim Bergling (Avicii) has decided to slow his life down a little bit.

Avicii live Tim Bergling Retiring

Living the dream has been put on hold for Tim Bergling, aka Avicii.

Most people would kill to have Avicii’s life. He earns about 28 million dollars each and every year, gets to party with the coolest celebrities, and is a musical genius. He’s been nominated for two Grammys and consistently ranked in DJ Mag’s Top 100 list. Who wouldn’t want to tour the globe, doing what they love? That’s what Avicii has done for the last 7 years.

Today, Avicii has publicly announced that 2016 will be his last year of touring. The Swedish house music producer took to Twitter and Facebook today to share an online letter that announced the sad news to his 19+ million fans that he’ll no longer be touring and performing live.

“My path has been filled with success but it hasn’t come without its bumps,” he said in the statement. “I’ve become an adult while growing as an artist, I’ve come to know myself better and realize that there’s so much I want to do with my life. I have strong interests in different areas but there’s so little time to explore them.”

Although his news is shocking, we hope that Avicii explores his other interests! What other hobbies and talents does he possess? Only time will tell!

Perhaps he came to this conclusion during his recent coast-to-coast drive across the U.S.? In his Facebook post, Avicii wrote:

“Two weeks ago, I took the time to drive across the U.S. with my friends and team, to just look and see and think about things in a new way,” he wrote in the long note to fans. “It really helped me realize that I needed to make the change that I’d been struggling with for a while.”

Is this decision stemming from his major health issues he has struggled with over the last few years? Avicii’s history of liver problems have caused him to cancel various shows and tours in the past. Has the stress of constantly touring caught up with him? His note leaves us with no explanation.

There is hope though! Don’t throw out your kandi just yet! Although Avicii tells us that he will retire from the road, he will continue to make music:

“My choices and career have never been driven by material things, although I’m grateful for all the opportunities and comforts my success has availed me,” he wrote. “I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist.

“I will however never let go of music – I will continue to speak to my fans through it, but I’ve decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows. Let’s make them go out with a bang!”

Avicii Goodbye

Avicii said his thank-yous–and gave out his phone number–in a heartfelt online letter.

We wish Avicii the best of luck in whatever he chooses to pursue and we hope that he continues to produce music that inspires the future generations! Check out the rest of Avicii’s letter here.
