Another senseless act of destruction has hit the EDM community. After a shooting at BPM Festival this week, five people were confirmed killed and an additional 15 were injured.
BPM is a 10-day festival taking place annually in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The shooting took place at the Blue Parrot nightclub, which was hosting a closing party for BPM.
Rodolfo del Angelo, a police officer, said the whole thing started out with “a disagreement between people inside.” When security tried to resolve the argument, the shooters fired their weapons.
Those killed by the shooters included two Canadians, one Italian and one Colombian, all of whom were employees of BPM.
BPM published an official comment on Facebook about the tragedy. “We are overcome with grief over this senseless act of violence and we are cooperating fully with local law enforcement and government officials as they continue their investigation,” the statement said.
Though at first the shooting seemed to have been carried out by one individual, some sources are claiming that’s not true. Instead, eyewitnesses are saying at least two and up to five men in leather jackets were behind the crime.
