Last week, Avicii played his final show at Ibiza’s Ushuaïa. It wasn’t a surprise that it was his last performance; the producer had revealed back in March that he was going to take a break to recover his health. Due to a rather extreme lifestyle, he had suffered from acute pancreatitis and had to have his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014.
The letter he wrote to fans back in March explained that just because he will be stepping away from touring doesn’t mean he’s leaving music behind forever.
“I will, however, never let go of music–I will continue to speak to my fans through it. One part of me can never say never, I could be back,” he said. “But I won’t be right back.”
His most recent address of his departure took place on Instagram, where he shared a photo at the Ushuaïa club in Ibiza along with the following message:
This Sunday was my last show. But far from my last days in the world of music. Creating music is what makes me happy and I have gotten to know so many great people in my days of touring, seen so many amazing places and created endless of good memories. The decision I made might seem odd to some but everyone is different and for me this was the right one. Thank you to all my fans, my friends and family and everyone in the aviciicrew/family. This has been our journey together.
It can’t have been easy for the young artist to step back from what he loves most, but if it keeps him happy and healthy to take a break from touring, then it’s one hundred percent worth it.
